There’s a New Sheriff in Town: The Chief Content Officer
Marketing agencies have a new member of their leadership team: the Chief Content Officer (CCO).
This person needs to be constantly creating and curating content in the form of blogs, videos, Facebook posts, tweets, Pinterest boards, podcasts and other forms of content that help an organization tell their story.
The CCO has to understand the brand story of the organization so all the content helps build and strengthen the brand. The CCO has to also understand the targeted audiences so the content is actually interesting and the people reading/viewing/listening to it feel compelled to share it with others.
Here’s an interesting blog post from a sales and marketing site all about the job of a CCO: When Your Content Needs a Leader, Hire a Chief Content Officer.
If you are a student who is interested in marketing, think about ways you can get experience in writing, strategy, shooting video, recording podcasts, taking photos and doing all the activities involved in creating content. This is an area of great opportunity in the future.
For now, I’m the CCO of my agency (aren’t I lucky?!), but at some point I will be creating a new position on the NMC Team. The person we hire will play an important role in telling the NMC brand story, as well as telling the stories of our clients.
It’s such an exciting time to be in public relations and marketing… I sometimes can’t contain my enthusiasm!
