An Amazing Video on YouTube about the Relevance of Technology

My former boss from Sugarloaf , Chip Carey, posted a link to this video on YouTube  on his FaceBook page this morning, and I was so impressed with it that I immediately emailed a link to all my employees and to my two sons. It perfectly captures all the reasons that we need to be forging ahead with new uses of technology and always thinking about how technology can help us solve problems. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the uses of social media in PR and Marketing, so I’m extremely pleased to know about this video. I recommend that you check it out.

Impressed with Class about Non-Profits at Colby College

Colby College Miller Library Tower

Some of you might know that I attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine and graduated back in 1982. I loved my experience there, but I think it seems as if Colby is even better now than it was then.

I was invited back this week to speak to a class all about NonProfit Organizations. There are only 14 students in the group, which makes it easy for the students to interact with each other, and the professor is Tom Morrione of the Colby Sociology Department. Most of the students are upperclassmen although there was at least one student who is a sophomore. I never took one of  Tom Morrione’s courses while I was at Colby but now I wish I had. He seems to be really connected with his students. Continue Reading »

Paul Schipper, February 23, 1923 to February 16, 2009

Paul Schipper, 1996I helped the Schipper family write this obituary for Paul, so I decided to post it here on my blog. His story was the first national story I ever publicized in my career, and it sure was a fun story to tell. Paul enjoyed being interviewed and telling his story because it helped Sugarloaf to gain national recognition. That made him happy. I sure will miss him.

Paul Schipper, Ironman of Skiing, 1923 - 2009

Paul Schipper, age 85, of Carrabassett Valley, died on February 16, 2009 at Veteran’s Rehabilitation Center in Bangor, Maine. Also known as “The Ironman of Skiing,” Schipper was widely covered in the media for his 24 year skiing streak at Sugarloaf, where he skied every day that Sugarloaf was open from 1981 until 2005. Saying Goodbye to the Ironman of Skiing

Published by Nancy Marshall under Maine, PR, Uncategorized

In 1984 I moved to Sugarloaf to work in the marketing department. I needed a place to stay so my then boss, Chip Carey, recommended I call Paul Schipper who owned the Lumberjack Lodge. I was able to rent a sparsely furnished room from Paul while I looked around for a permanent place to stay. I am so glad I did. Continue Reading »

If you mess up, then you must fess up and dress up

We saw a classic case of a well-handled public apology from our new president yesterday.  President Obama apologized for allowing his cabinet appointees get as far as they did in the process without their tax scandals being revealed. His apology on national TV?

A simple statement:  ”I screwed up.” Continue Reading »
