Google and Bing Say Great Content Will Win Over SEO’d Content

I received this article from Drew McLellan the other day: Google’s Pending Algorithm Update to Penalize Over-Optimized Content.

Drew is a respected blogger and nationally renowned social media expert who I’m happy to be affiliated with through the Agency Management Roundtable.

We have known for some time now that the search engines are catching on to those people who tailor their content to the search engines and not to the real people who are viewing the sites.

The pendulum is moving more and more to pleasing the people, not the search spiders.  If people spend time looking at your site and share your site on social networks, then search engines like Google and Bing will reward you.

Search engines want people to come back to them time and time again so their primary aim is to make people happy with their search results.

I can’t tell you how happy I am about all of this. I love to create great content and I love to share great content with real people (like you….hello there, you real person!)

So enjoy this article, and if you learn something useful, please share a link on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or your social community of choice.

Thank you!

Search Engine Optimization is an Investment in Marketing Success

Nancy Marshall Communications is part of a national alliance of agencies known as the Alliance of Marketing Communications Agencies.  One of our partner agencies is Parlee Stumpf of Doylestown, PA.

Todd Parlee wrote this article on SEO and agreed ever so graciously to allow me to share his article on my blog. As Todd points out in this article, whatever efforts you put into search will come back to you many fold, so it is a good idea to make sure your website is optimized for the search engine spiders, those little critters that crawl through it every so often looking for those coveted key words.

By Todd Parlee, from the Parlee Stumpf e-newsletter

I am constantly reminded of the beauty of “Search.” This week a prospective client approached us. After getting various details from them I asked the all-important question, “How did you hear about us?” Once again the reply, “I found your website using Google search.” That’s music to my ears. It should be music to your ears as well, dear reader.

Needless to say, we walk the walk. We have implemented the same Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Programs on our site as we do for our clients. Countless times we have proven that our SEO programs not only work for us but our clients too.

Wednesday Witty Wisdom: The Importance of Your Web Content

Today’s Wednesday Witty Wisdom comes from NMC Interactive Marketing Manager Matt Rideout. He wrote about the dramatic changes happening in Google Search. If you want to see more articles like this, subscribe to The NMC Report, our bi-weekly e-newsletter filled with great information on PR  and interactive marketing from Nancy Marshall Communications.

A few years ago it didn’t matter too much if your website’s HTML code was a little dated or if your copy was a little generic. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) firms were ready and willing to work their magic and boost your rankings by painstakingly building inbound links, stuffing keywords into your content and perhaps even performing some other questionable SEO practices.

1. Do you feel that social media is the most impactful and measurable form of marketing?

Well, you’re talking to an SEO girl so I am a bit biased here. I feel that SEO and Pay-Per-Click marketing are very impactful and measurable forms of marketing. My goal is to make a website found naturally in a search engine, have people visit it, and hope they perform a desired action (buy something, contact me, sign up for my newsletter, etc). But that’s not to say that social media doesn’t have its place in the mix of internet marketing. I like to look at an internet presence holistically: having a search engine friendly website that ranks well in search engines for important keywords, implementing a PPC campaign to supplement your organic rankings, as well as being active on a social network are all pieces of the puzzle. As the search engines shift and begin to look at social media signals as potential ranking factors, I consider all aspects of internet marketing impactful.

Out of sight, Out of Mind

I once had a boyfriend who told me there are two sayings about relationships, and he wasn’t sure which one he believed in:

1. Out of sight, out of mind

2. Absence makes the heart grow fonder

This particular boyfriend was a ‘summer’ boyfriend who I had met at my summer camp. What I learned was that for him, #1 above applied. Once we left camp, I hardly ever heard from him again.  Unfortunately for me, #2 above applied, so while I was missing him, he was forging a relationship with his new ‘winter’ girlfriend. On Facebook and Google, Be the Life of the Party!

Did you know that Google is more likely to give your website more exposure when people search for you if your website has been recently updated with new content and photos? Did you also know that Facebook is more likely to put your page in the “Top News” on the News Feed if you have posted links, and people have liked your content, especially photos and videos? Search Engine Optimization and Hats

by Matt Rideout, Interactive Marketing Manager, Nancy Marshall Communications

matts-head-shot-new1Ever seen the movie “Hackers”? Computer programmers can be pretty weird, and their terminology for computer stuff can reflect that. Today we’ll be looking at different two of those terms, specifically black hat and white hat search engine optimization. What are these, you ask? Call them yin and yang or good vs. evil. Each hat has its own culture of followers, code of ethics, as well as its plusses and minuses. Read on and I’ll dive right into the difference between these two styles of search engine optimization and what that means for you in the short-term and long-term. Continue reading
